Solomon LindaWimoweh.org is the portal for the very popular song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", also called "Wimoweh".

Wimoweh is a modified version of an African song "Mbube".

Mbube was written in 1939 by Solomon Linda and performed by Solomon Linda and the Evening Birds.

Mbube is Zulu for Lion. There are a number of theories regarding the "Sleeping Lion" which are explored on various websites.

There have been many covers and adaptations. There are techno versions, reggae versions, dance versions and lots of other versions, too numerous to mention.
